Macromolecular Division (IV)
Rules - Revised 1991
- In accordance with the general objects defined in the Statutes
and By laws of IUPAC, the aim of the Macromolecular Division is
to promote the science and technology of macromolecules by all
appropriate means.
- In accordance with Bylaw 4.102 of the Union, the Members of
the Division shall, for electoral purposes, be defined as the
Members of the Division Committee (excluding ex-officio and Coopted
Members) together with the Titular and Associate Members of the
commissions belonging to the Division.
- The Division shall be administered by a Division Committee,
consisting of not more than ten Members (excluding ex-officio
and Coopted Members). Coopted Members may vote, together with
National Representatives, on all scientific matters. A balanced
representation from academic and industrial institutions shall
be maintained in the Division Committee.
- The Members of the Division Committee shall be elected by a
simple majority of the votes cast by Division Members (Rule 2)
at a Division Meeting called for the purpose.
- Adhering Organisations of the Union shall be invited to appoint
National Representatives for a period of two years. Such representation
shall lapse at the conclusion of the next General Assembly, unless
the person is renominated by the Adhering Organisation and re-approved
by the Division. National Representatives shall be invited to
attend the meetings of the Division Committee.
- All Division Members, ex-officio and Coopted Members shall,
together with National Representatives, be invited to designate
candidates for election to the Division Committee at least two
months before the election takes place.
- Coopted Members shall be eligible subsequently for election
to Membership of the Division Committee. Members of the Division
Committee shall be eligible subsequently for election as Coopted
Members for a maximum period of two years, but they may not be
consecutively re-elected as a Member of the Division Committee.
- The period of service as Division Committee Member shall be
not more than four consecutive years, but re-election is possible
for a further period of two years.
- The period of office & of President, Vice-President, Past-President,
and Secretary of the Division shall be as specified in Bylaw 4.103:

The sum of the years of service as a Member and as an officer
of the Division Committee shall not exceed ten consecutive years.

- The Division Committee shall meet at least every two years during
the IUPAC General Assembly. Any Coopted Member who has not attended
two consecutive meetings shall be considered as having resigned
from membership.
- The composition, duties, and responsibilities of Commissions
of the Division are those outlined under Bylaw 4.3.
- Commissions of the Division may make proposals for the Division
Committee to create Subcommittees or working parties in accordance
with Bylaw 4.308 of the Union.
- Continuation of the work undertaken by Commissions shall be
subject to a vote by the Division Committee every two years and
subsequent approval by the Council.
- Other International Scientific Unions-may appoint a Representative
to the Division. Subject to an agreement between the Council of
IUPAC and the Union concerned, such a Representative may have
voting rights on scientific matters in the meetings of the Division
Committee.
- Changes in the Rules of the Division may be made by the Division
Committee subject to conformity with the Statutes and Bylaws of
the Union and approval by the Council.
These rules will be revised after the IUPAC Bureau
considers and adopts changes in procedures recommended by the Strategy
Development and Implementation Committee, later in 1998
