e-news, 28 June 2000
----------------------------------------------

It seems like yesterday that the IUPAC website was about 8 pages, and
because of that, it was easy to keep up with new developments. For the
last 2 years, we have enhanced the information made available to you via
this new medium. We still have plenty of ideas to improve the site, and
as someone once said 'the best is yet to come'! We feel, however, it is
now time to reach out to you by e-mail to let you know what's new at
IUPAC and its website. So, here it is, the first IUPAC e-news. It is
being sent to about 1200 persons, the combination of all of our
different mailing lists. This mailing group is not restricted to IUPAC
and anyone can join. For questions regarding the list, including
subscribing and unsubscribing, please visit the e-news page at
<http://www.iupac.org/news/e-news.html>

We welcome yours suggestions, comments, questions, etc.

* FAQs
Long due, this page presents the answers to the top 10 questions we
receive about IUPAC and about the website.
<http://www.iupac.org/general/FAQs.html>

* Provisional Recommendations - archives page
If you regularly look at this area, you probably wonder what happens to
those provisional recommendations posted last year. To answer this
question, we now maintain an 'archive' page that list the documents that
have cleared the public review, and are in the process of being
completed, or have been published in PAC.
<http://www.iupac.org/reports/provisional/archives.html>

* Chemistry International online
The online contents of CI has been redesigned to give you more insight
just one click away.

- - - - - -- BEAKERS & FLASKS -- - - - - -

* A few numbers
In August 1999, we were asked 'how many websites provide links to
www.iupac.org?' At that time a search on Altavista.com, a webcrawler
search engine, rendered 212 pages. The same search in June 2000 produced
607.

* Book sale
The IUPAC Secretariat has acquired the entire stock of books published
by Blackwell Science Ltd. The sale of these books is now handled by the
Secretariat. Members are entitled to 25% discount!
For a list of price and availability and order form:
<http://www.iupac.org/publications/books/order.html>
For books reviews:
<http://www.iupac.org/publications/books/index.html>

* Out of print
We have had multiple requests for methods published in the 7th edition
of the Standard Methods for the Analysis of Oils, Fats and Derivatives,
Paquot and Hautfenne eds. (Blackwell Science, 1987). However, the
Secretariat does not possess any copies of this edition. Can someone who
possesses one contact the Secretariat so that we can make a copy of it?
In compensation, we can arrange for an exchange with the 8th edition in
preparation.
