The considerable growth in recent years of
the natural gas industry throughout the world and increasing improvements
in the optimization of chemical plants have led to the requirement for
the thermodynamic properties of methane, its major component, at ever
higher accuracies for design of processes such as liquification, separation,
storage, pumping and transport of natural gas. The major part of this
book consists of tables of the equilibrium thermodynamic properties
of methane for both the gas and liquid phases and along the saturation
and melting curves. The tables cover the range 92 K to 620 K for pressures
up to 1000 MPa. The properties listed are volume, entropy, enthalpy,
isobaric heat capacity, compression factor, fugacity-pressure ratio,
Joule-Thomson coefficient, ratio of heat capacities and speed of sound
as functions of pressure and temperature and pressure, entropy, internal
energy and isochoric heat capacity as functions of density and temperature.
The text describes the construction of the equation of state used to
calculate the tables together with a critical assessment of the accuracy
of all the available experimental data and gives comparisons of the
tables with the data.
